The essence of poetry and literature in general may be the question, "What if...?" I posted a "future history" poem yesterday. Many of our tales and legends are the works of past poets. I look forward to reading new legends. To answer the question, I'm sure folks went barefoot in the warm climates, but there's nothing like an ice age to get the creative juices flowing and warm boots invented.
