What are the advantages and disadvantages of wearing half chaps and paddock boots over tall riding boots?
Is wearing half chaps cooler the hot weather than wearing tall boots?
Are half chaps more comfortable?
Are half chaps, maybe the suede ones, better for beginners for gripping the horse and preventing slipping off?
Yes, half chaps are definitely cooler in the summer than tall boots. You can get half chaps in many different breathable materials. Most tall boots are either leather or rubber, they do not breath very well.
As a beginner you may want to stick with half chaps at first and then move towards getting a pair of nice tall boots when you are ready to begin showing. Both half chaps and tall boots provide excellent grip.
That being said, I LOVE my tall boots, I feel like I get a better grip when I wear them. I just have an odd preference to my tall boots, even in North Texas summers... most people would prefer to wear half chaps.
